Cognitive architectures of agent systems and social mechanisms of emergence and immergence

چکیده

This paper develops a framework of a theory for the emergence of social reality that turns out by relating three different models or agent architectures, respectively: a model of the emergence of social hierarchies, an architecture of a normative system and an architecture of the delegation of social control. This reflects a complex feedback loop of the emergence of an autonomous sphere of social positions and immergence of social norms and execution of social control. It is shown how social structure emerges from and recursively affects the agents’ cognitive structure.

Emergent and Immergent Effects in Complex Social Systems

In this paper the notion of emergence in complex social systems is rediscussed as a necessary instrument for a theory of the macro-micro link. Referring to Schelling’s model of segregation, emergent effects are defined as effects generated by (inter)acting micro-social entities, and implemented upon, but not incorporated into, their rules. In the successive section, the way back from macro to m...

Emergence In the Loop: Simulating the two way dynamics of norm innovation

In this paper we will present the EMIL project, “EMergence In the Loop: Simulating the two-way dynamics of norm innovation”, a three-year project funded by the European Commission (Sixth Framework Programme -Information Society and Technologies) in the framework of the initiative “Simulating Emergent Properties in Complex Systems”. The EMIL project intends to contribute to the study of social c...

Normative Agents for Real-world Scenarios (Doctoral Consortium)

Norms are an important part of human social systems, governing many aspects of group decision-making. Yet many popularly used social models neglect to model normative effects on human behavior, relying on simple probabilistic and majority voting models of influence diffusion. Within the multi-agent research community, the study of norm emergence, compliance, and adoption has resulted in new arc...

Neuro-ACT Cognitive Architecture Applications in Modeling Driver’s Steering Behavior in Turns

Cognitive Architectures (CAs) are the core of artificial cognitive systems. A CA is supposed to specify the human brain at a level of abstraction suitable for explaining how it achieves the functions of the mind. Over the years a number of distinct CAs have been proposed by different authors and their limitations and potentials were investigated. These CAs are usually classified as symbolic and...

Behavior Emergence in Autonomous Robot Control by Means of Feedforward and Recurrent Neural Networks

We study the emergence of intelligent behavior within a simple intelligent agent. Cognitive agent functions are realized by mechanisms based on neural networks and evolutionary algorithms. The evolutionary algorithm is responsible for the adaptation of a neural network parameters based on the performance of the embodied agent endowed by different neural network architectures. In experiments, we...
